How long is LVN school?

LVN school programs typically take one year to complete, and this generally includes 500-750 clinical hours, depending on state requirements. A licensed practical nurse (LPN) is referred to as a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) in California and Texas. They both require certification which can be completed in various ways.

The certification for LPNs and LVNs is a non-degree diploma that is offered at vocational schools, community colleges, and sometimes through hospitals. It is a more extensive program than that of a CNA, and after completion, many LPNs and LVNs supervise the work of CNAs.

LPN and LVN programs prepare you to work under the supervision of RNs. You complete tasks such as taking vital signs and assisting with tests, sample collection, and procedures. Many LPNs choose to work while they complete nursing school and eventually transition into full-time RN positions.
