This question is about veterinary technician education.
Veterinary technician school takes between two to three years to complete in the United States. Most states require at least an associate's degree to become a veterinary technician.
In three states, which include Alaska, California, and Wisconsin, veterinary technicians can qualify for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) after they complete an alternative degree or by gaining on-the-job training and experience.
The American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) oversees and offers the VTNE. Certain states, such as Massachusetts, may not require a license.
