How many years does it take to become an auditor?

It usually takes more than four years to become an auditor due to the requirements for training or schooling and expected work experience to become certified.

Most auditor positions require at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Some employers prefer those with a master's degree, either in accounting or business administration, with a concentration in accounting.

Those with an associate's degree, as well as bookkeepers and accounting clerks, typically need several more years of relevant work experience to substitute for a bachelor's degree.

CPAs have their own specific requirements depending on their states, but most require 150 semester hours of college coursework to be certified, which is 30 hours more than the usual 4-year bachelor's degree.
