How much is art school?
Art school tuition and expenses can range from almost nothing to $50,000 per year. Student cost depends almost entirely on the specific school chosen.
There are well-known expensive schools such as the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Pratt Institute. Both have tuitions ranging from $34,000 to $36,000 per year. There are also additional fees and expenses specific to an MFA degree.
Supplies and technology fees alone can amount to $4,000 to $6,000 per year. Room and board, depending on location, can add another $11,000 to $14,000 per year.
There are respected art schools that charge their students no tuition. The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia is a scholarship-only college. You may choose to complete your art degree online. The University of Iowa's online art degree is rated as one of the best based on cost. While not an MFA, students can expect to spend approximately $8,500 per year on tuition. Arizona State University offers an online MFA at less than $17,000 per year.
