How to get a tow truck license

To drive a tow truck, you need to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL).This is done by taking and passing an exam. To do this, you can choose to pursue formal training before receiving your CDL. It is not required, but many companies prefer hiring someone who has passed a formal training course for a CDL.

The course times also vary depending on whether you choose to go full-time or part-time, as well as the exact hour requirements for your state. You need to also take and pass a commercial driver's license. After passing, you periodically need to make sure to renew your license to continue legally working as a tow truck driver.
