On-the-job forklift training

By Zippia Team - Jan. 31, 2023

On-the-job forklift training is essential to anyone aspiring to work as a forklift operator. The required training is always done on the job site and is specific to your employment duties.

While forklift operators can be certified through training and coursework, certification is not required by any governing safety organization. OSHA does not certify any training providers for forklift operators. While obtaining certification from an independent training provider may be helpful, it is not a requirement.

Employers are solely responsible for providing their operators with the skills necessary to carry out their duties. While machine controls and attachments may be similar from one job site to another, site rules and environmental conditions are specific to each job. Once your employer has instructed you on the specifics of your job, they will certify to OSHA that you have received the proper training.
