Physical Therapist vs Physical Therapist Assistant
A physical therapist is a primary caregiver and planner to a patient recovering from a surgery or injury, while a physical therapist assistant assists the primary physical therapist with their duties.
A physical therapist helps patients recover from injuries and reacclimate their bodies to normal usage after major surgeries or other medical scenarios. They may also employ active therapies such as stretches, exercises, massages, and ultrasound therapy.
A physical therapist's main objective is to improve a patient's quality of life by improving their mobility, restoring function to certain parts of their body, and decreasing any chronic pain.
A physical therapist assistant has the same goals as a physical therapist and works in tandem with one to achieve the goals of a specific patient. While a physical therapist designs a specific exercise and activity plan for a patient, a physical therapy assistant may be the one actually walking the patient through specific exercises and stretches.
Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants are essentially the same roles, while the former holds more responsibilities and is in charge of the latter. Physical therapists also have higher salaries than their assistants.
