Should I put co-op experience on a resume?

A co-op is a formalized program where students alternate between semesters of full-time school and semesters of full-time work. Co-op students normally have more than one semester of co-op work experience prior to graduation.

So as a student preparing to apply for a new career, it will be extremely beneficial to include every work experience that you have had - especially co-ops.

However, there are certain circumstances where highlighting co-op experience is ideal, such as:

• If you are a recent graduate and have little other work experience

• If the co-op you held is directly related to the field or industry you are applying for

• If you gained valuable skills or knowledge from past co-ops that are applicable and beneficial to the position you are applying for.

However, once you have gained enough full-time work experience, it will be important to drop co-op experience off of your resume as it will no longer be relevant.
