What are the pros and cons of being a hotel housekeeper?

Pros:

• Daytime work shifts. Many housekeeping positions require housekeepers to work after hours, when a business is closed. Hotels do have some staff working at night, but the majority of housekeepers can have shifts during standard business hours.

• Travel opportunities. If you have a dream of living somewhere different or traveling, hotel housekeeping could be a good position. Some hotels have housekeepers working in different hotels in different nearby cities. Bigger chains also have opportunities for temporary or permanent transfers.

Cons:

• Fast-paced environment. Working for a hotel requires housekeepers to be able to work in a fast paced environment. You need to complete many daily tasks in each room in an allotted amount of time, and this requires hard work, diligence, and practice.

• Rude clients. Like many other positions working directly with clients, hotel housekeepers may run into confrontations with unsatisfied guests. This can even occur with guests that didn't even have their rooms cleaned by the housekeeper. That can be extremely stressful and uncomfortable.
