What degree do you need to be a music therapist?

You need a bachelor's degree in music therapy from an AMTA-approved college or university in order to begin an entry-level position in music therapy. The American Music Therapy Association works with universities to ensure the practices and principles taught will allow you future success in your career.

After graduation, it is important to know where you see yourself in your career and then plan accordingly. For those who would like to pursue a career in professional practice, you are eligible to pursue national board certification.
