What degree do you need to be a neuropsychologist?

By Zippia Team - Oct. 25, 2022

You need an undergraduate degree in psychology, biology, or a related field in order to be a neuropsychologist. Post graduation, you may choose to pursue an optional master's degree in psychology. While a master's degree is not required, it will make you a more desirable candidate when applying for doctoral programs.

A doctoral degree in psychology with a neuropsychology concentration is required to pass the licensing exam. Post graduation, you will then need to complete a fellowship which will allow you to complete the required clinical hours to qualify for licensure. Before practicing, all clinical neuropsychologists must pass the licensing exam, the EPPP.

Many aspiring neuropsychologists find it beneficial to complete certification through the American Board of Clinical Psychology. Although this is not required to seek employment, many employers prefer it, and some even require it.

You will spend a decade preparing for this career, but this determination will lead you to begin a dynamic, exciting career that aids in helping others.
