This question is about pilot.
A pilot does not need a college degree for a job with a regional airline; however, most major airlines prefer pilots with a minimum of a bachelor's degree. Most major airlines will accept a bachelor's degree in any area, but the preferred subjects are:
Aeronautical science
Aerospace engineering
Air traffic management
Aviation
Typically, pilots should focus their studies on physics, math, and aeronautical engineering to help them in their careers. Those who want to be pilots for the military can complete service-specific officer training programs. These programs often teach additional skills that an individual needs to perform branch-specific duties.
Beyond a degree, it is more important for a pilot to be licensed. Upon earning a student pilot license, there are 5 options for pilot licenses:
Private Pilot License
Commercial Pilot License
Airline Transport Pilot License
Sport Pilot License
Recreational Pilot License
A Private Pilot License (PPL) allows someone to fly most single-engine airplanes or aircraft either alone or flying with others. To earn a PPL you need to meet the following requirements:
Log 35 hours of varied flight time
Pass written exams
Pass the FAA check ride
Have a valid driver's license
A Commercial Pilot License (CPL) allows the pilot to be paid for their pilot services and gives them the ability to fly with passengers. To earn a CPL, you need to meet the following criteria:
Be at least 18 years old
Speak and understand English proficiently
Pass all exams
Log 250 hours of varied flight time
Earn a second-class medical certificate
An Airline Transport Pilot License is the highest level of certification a pilot can pursue. This certification requires a minimum of 1,500 hours of flying time and at least 250 hours must have the pilot in command of the aircraft.
A Sport License Pilot can operate an aircraft with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 1,320 pounds or less. Limitations to the license include only being able to operate during daylight and only having 2 people onboard.
A Recreational Pilot License enables the pilot to fly for leisure only. They are restricted to flying only in their local area. They can have only one passenger and the aircraft must have 180 horsepower or less.
