A Security Operations Center (SOC) analyst is a professional who works on a team that monitors, analyzes, and responds to security threats and issues. The main objective of a security operations center analyst is to prevent attacks on a company or organization's network.
When an attack on a network occurs, a security operations center analyst investigates it along with the rest of their security team. Most SOCs spend much of their workdays monitoring networks to ensure that no suspicious activities are taking place.
A SOC analyst may also work on a cross-departmental basis, making sure the security needs of each department are met and monitored.
