This question is about entrepreneur certifications.
The 8a Business Development Program certification enables small businesses to receive federal contracting preferences and receive training and technical assistance to strengthen their businesses. You must first be certified to be able to enter the Business Development Program.
To enter the program, you must be a small business owner with a net worth of less than $750,000, demonstrate good character, and show that the business has been successful for at least two years. Over 51% of the company must be owned and controlled by economically or socially disadvantaged US citizens.
To get certified, you must prequalify by ensuring you meet the program requirements. Then, you submit relevant documentation that proves these requirements for review and edits. Finally, once everything has been reviewed and confirmed, certification is complete. This process can often take over a year to complete.
The certification lasts for 9 years. After this, you will need to stay compliant with program requirements to continue. If you meet the requirements, 8a certification can be extremely beneficial as it allows you to have opportunities that you could not find anywhere else.
