This question is about Lyft and Lyft jobs.
The hiring process at Lyft is pretty easy if you're applying for a driver position, while corporate positions have an entirely different hiring process.
Overall the hiring time for a Lyft Driver can vary greatly depending on the location and demand for the driver; however, it's a pretty straightforward process. Those applying for corporate positions will have a more traditional hiring process, complete with interviews and technical assessments.
Lyft Driver hiring process:
Applying to be a driver is easy as long as you and your vehicle meet the requirements. You will need to submit your application online or through the Lyft app. Be sure to research your city and state-specific requirements: for vehicle requirements and inspection and for details on TNC permitting.
You will also need to complete our Community Safety Education program before you hit the road. Once your application is submitted, you will need to undergo a background check which can take several weeks to process. During this time, you will also need to get your vehicle inspected at one of their approved locations.
In some cases, applications may be put on a waitlist due to a variety of factors that affect demand in certain areas. The average hiring time for a Lyft driver position is 22 days.
Lyft Corporate Office hiring process:
The hiring process for a corporate position at Lyft typically involves four stages: recruiter screen, technical phone screen, on-site, and team matching.
The recruiter's phone screen is fairly straightforward and consists mostly of some light questions based on your resume, and they may ask about your interests, your past experiences, and why you want to work at Lyft. Be sure to review your resume to speak from it, and be sure to research a bit more about Lyft, like their company mission.
If you're applying for a technical position, anticipate a second phone screening. This technical phone interview takes one hour with a software engineer at Lyft answering a technical question. Generally, the questions on the technical phone screen are a bit lighter in-depth but will cover any of the categories that are directly relevant to the position.
If all goes well, you'll be invited to come on-site for a day of interviews. The onsite Lyft technical role interview consists of four rounds:
System Design Interview (60 minutes) covering three overarching themes:
Structure: Do you take a systematic approach?
Comprehensiveness: Does your approach cover all requirements?
Feasibility: Is your answer practical and could be implemented?
CS Fundamentals Interview (120 minutes): Lyft will present a problem, and you'll devise a solution to the problem with an algorithm or function
Laptop Programming Test: (90 minutes) solve a problem using the internet and a coding language of your choice.
Behavioral Interview: (45 minutes) In Lyft's behavioral interview, you'll meet for 45 minutes with your potential manager and discuss your background, experiences, and interests.
Experience: Do you have relevant previous experience for the role?
Collaboration: How do you work with others, including teammates or customers?
Ownership: Do you exhibit ownership and drive to complete projects?
Impact: Do you care about impact and action-oriented solutions?
Learning: Do you enjoy learning from your experiences and mistakes?
Values: Do your experiences align with Lyft's values?
