A typical day for a pilot typically starts with pre-flight duties, such as planning a flight and ensuring all aircraft systems are functioning properly. They then meet with other pilots to conduct a briefing before take-off.

After landing at the destination airport they may be deployed as ground support staff. In some countries, there is a separate category, that does not require licensing. In this role, pilots are solely responsible for the aircraft and its operation.

A certified pilot, on the other hand, is someone who has completed an aeronautical education course or training program, obtained a private pilot license, received flight training in an aircraft, and received a commercial pilot certificate. They may also be referred to as "P-Tol" pilots, meaning "Private to Lightplane".
