What should a web developer put on a resume?

By Zippia Team - May. 6, 2022

A web developer should put the technical skills and experience to successfully design, develop, and test websites on a resume. As a web developer, you understand the importance of planning and structure. This is also key when building your resume.

To get started, you should lead with a strong profile summary. In one to four sentences, describe your qualifications as a web developer as well as some of your top skills and accomplishments.

For example, "Prolific, full-stack web developer with a passion for metrics and beating former "best-yets." Prototyped 25 new product features per year for Flexor, Inc. Decreased rework by 22% and costs by 15%."

Next, you should elaborate on your qualifications in the work experience section. Here, you should start each bullet with an action verb and focus on accomplishments more than on responsibilities. For example, "Prototyped an average of 25 new product features per year."

If you're just starting out as a web developer, include the education section along with key academic achievements, relevant courses, and projects. If you have any internship experience, you can include that under work experience. If you don't already have one, consider creating a work portfolio that you can refer to in the resume.

Finally, be sure to include a customized list of skills. Include no more than ten hard and soft skills that not only reflect your own abilities but also align with those mentioned in the job description. Focus mostly on technical skills such as programming languages, prototyping and wireframing, debugging, and programs such as WordPress and Photoshop.
