This question is about student internship resumes.
An internship resume should highlight your transferable skills, education, and other abilities rather than your work experience. The key to writing an impactful internship resume is to demonstrate to the hiring manager that you have what it takes to succeed and gain the most from this role.
Before jumping in, we recommend that you read through the internship job descriptions and take note of the skills and phrases they use to describe the role. Throughout your resume, be sure to touch on those same keywords and skills.
The first step in writing a stellar internship resume is to open with a strong objective statement. In one to four sentences, introduce who you are as a candidate, what you bring to the table, and your enthusiasm.
For example, "Hardworking and enthusiastic college student working towards a B.S. in Marketing. I am seeking to use my superior knowledge of social media marketing and my advanced communication skills to effectively serve your company in an internship position."
The education section is your time to shine as a candidate, especially if you have limited to no experience working in the field. You will want to lead with your strongest qualities first to get started. That usually means showcasing your educational achievements and relevant coursework for students and recent graduates.
This includes your degrees and certifications, your GPA (if it's high), and any projects or extracurricular activities you have been involved in.
If you have no work experience, consider including a detailed achievements section. You can talk about any awards you have gotten or any projects you've done that demonstrate important skills that an employer wants to see.
Be sure to also include any extracurricular activities and clubs here but be sure to frame them in terms of achievements.
Finally, don't forget to include a list of hard skills that best reflect your abilities and those covered in the internship job description. It's not enough to list these skills; you should demonstrate them with examples and achievements.
