Who owns Nintendo?

Nintendo Co., Ltd. owns Nintendo. The company was founded in 1889 by a Japanese craftsman named Fusajiro Yamauchi. Originally, Nintendo produced handmade hanafuda playing cards. Then during the 1960s, the company ventured into various lines of business and acquired legal status as a public company.

Nintendo developed its first video game console, the Color TV Game, in 1977. The company found international fame with its release of Donkey Kong in 1981 and then the Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Mario Brothers game in 1985.

Since then, Nintendo has produced some of the most successful video games and video game consoles in the industry. The company has several subsidiaries in Japan and abroad, along with partners such as The Pokemon Company and HAL Laboratory. Nintendo is considered one of the most valuable companies in the Japanese market.

In 2021, the company had annual revenue of $13.71 billion with a workforce of 6,547 employees.
