1994

Head Start is a comprehensive early childhood development program primarily serving low-income preschool-age children and their families while Early Head Start was established during the 1994 Reauthorization of Head Start.

1995

The Mill Creek location opened in 1995

1997

In 1997, mother and entrepreneur April Lukasik found herself searching for child care options that suited her needs and the standards she had for her own children.

The Forest Lakes location opened in 1997

The Bright & Early story started in 1997, and with 25 years of caring for and educating 1000s of young children, there are many Bright & Early centers with more in development to look forward to.

1999

The Crozet location opened in 1999

Since 1999, YMCA Bright Beginnings has given children in the Kernersville community the tools they need to succeed each year.

2012

Molly attended Bright Beginnings as a preschooler! She earned a Bachelor of Arts in the History of Art from Sweet Briar College in 2012.

2012 – 200+ volunteers escorted some 185 kids and purchased school supplies, clothes at WalMart / Target and had a picnic at the YMCA.

2013

2013 – Volunteers escorted some 150+ kids and purchased school supplies, clothes at WalMart / Target and had a picnic at the YMCA.

2015

In 2015, Theresa Christensen built Bright Beginnings Preschool and Childcare.

2016

2016 – YMCA Bright Beginnings – August 13th – Volunteers escorted 126 kids around Target, Walmart and had a picnic at the YMCA.

2017

2017 – YMCA Bright Beginnings – August 12th – 160 Volunteers escorted 120 kids around Walmart and had a picnic at the YMCA.

2018

2018 – YMCA Bright Beginnings – August 11th – 140 Volunteers escorted 120 kids around Walmart and had a picnic at the YMCA.

2019

The Blue Ribbon award, received in the fall of 2019, recognizes Bright Beginnings for meeting and exceeding the highest standards for home visiting programs.

2020

2020 – A check was presented to the YMCA Bright Beginnings for the amount of $4238.

2021

May 2021 | Transforming Systems — One Voice, Many Steps

Collaborative for Children begins to test-pilot innovative programs, including emergent literacy, dual generation learning, and digital literacy, for its 2021-25 vision plan.
