California Chamber of Commerce company history timeline

1890

The CalChamber traces its roots directly to the California State Board of Trade, which incorporated on February 20, 1890 after three years as a voluntary organization.

1895

In 1895, when the Valley Hunt Club determined it was unable to continue staging the Rose Parade, the Pasadena Board of Trade saved the event and initiated formation of the Tournament of Roses Association.

1899

Work on the San Pedro breakwater began in April of 1899 and was celebrated with long speeches, band music and a barbecue.

1910

In an effort to more effectively promote the business of the state, the California State Board of Trade merged with the Manufacturers and Producers Association of California and the California Promotion Committee in 1910.

1911

HISTORY OF THE MADERA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The Madera District Chamber of Commerce can trace its beginnings back to 1911, originally known as the Madera County Chamber of Commerce incorporated on October 24, 1911.

1913

4, 1913 their dream was realized with the opening of the aqueduct to the San Fernando Valley, which had to be annexed by Los Angeles.By the late twenties and early thirties, the need for yet more water was anticipated and efforts were made to find a new source.

1920

The chamber attracted aircraft manufacturing in 1920 through its support of international air meets at Dominguez field and communication of meteorological information that made flights safer for pilots.

1921

The local livestock market received a boost when the Chamber collaborated with Chicago entrepreneurs in 1921 to create an area called the Central Manufacturing District and Los Angeles Junction Railway.

1929

In September 1929, the organization incorporated as the California State Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture and Industry.

1931

The bond issue was passed in September 1931.

1935

The dam was finished in 1935 and the aqueduct completed three years later.In the forties the Chamber launched a cooperative campaign to reduce a smoke and fume problem.

1940

A six-mile stretch of "miracle boulevard" had been opened as early as December 1940 with the Arroyo Seco Parkway, later renamed the Pasadena Freeway.

1956

When smog increased due to continued industrial growth, the Chamber worked with the Air Pollution Control District to create the "Share the Ride: campaign in 1956.

1962

With Chamber efforts, Dodger Stadium was built in Chavez Ravine and opened in 1962.

1967

In 1967, the Chamber changed its name to the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.

1972

In 1972, the board of directors adopted the shorter name: California Chamber of Commerce.

2003

The Chamber was a staunch supporter of bringing light rail transit to Pasadena, a task that was finally accomplished by the Metro Gold Line Construction Authority in 2003.
