Camp Judaea company history timeline
A camp in Edneyville was up for sale, and the former Camp Carlyle became Camp Judaea in 1961.
Established in 1961, Camp Judaea is a small, Jewish, Israel-centered summer camp community for children ages 7-15 located in Hendersonville, NC.
Caretaker Newell Saltz helped to select the site and build the chapel in 1962.
The camp continued to grow and in 1971, due in large part to a matching fund bequest of $100,000 in the will of Ben G. Barnett, Camp Young Judaea obtained its present location.
Originally located in Huntsville, then Sudbury, the camp moved to Mont Tremblant, Quebec, in 1976, where it continues to share its land and facilities with Camp Kinneret, one of its feeder camps within Canadian Young Judaea.
After Herman’s retirement in 1986, his son, Rodger, and his wife, Candy, bought the camp.
