Capital High School company history timeline

1950

Capitol High School made history when it opened in 1950 as the second public high school for African Americans in Baton Rouge.

1959

Originally opened as a school for middle and high schoolers, the middle school and high school split in 1959.

1960

In 1960, the school saw it’s first ever graduating class.

The class of 1960 was the first to graduate from the new Capitol Senior High School.

1972

Bill Sali (1972), former congressman

1985

Matthew Barney (1985), artist Geraldo Boldewijn, American football player Ben Driebergen, former United States Marine, winner of Survivor: Heroes v.

1989

In 1989, Capital High School opened, combining the students of these two longtime rivals.

1993

Jake Plummer (1993), former NFL quarterback

2003

2008

In September (2008) Capitol Boys and Girls Academy opened as a Charter School with the group 100 Black Men as its principle charter school operator.
