    Column 4.5company rating

Co-owner job in San Francisco, CA

For companies building financial technology and transforming the financial services space, the biggest bottleneck to their growth and innovation is often the underlying banks and infrastructure stack they rely on. We have spent our careers founding and scaling companies like Plaid, Square, Meta, Blend, and Affirm, and have seen this problem firsthand - builders and developers needing to partner with traditional banks, and creating API and abstraction layers over the patchwork that is the bank, its core, and many other vendors. All of this results in a complex (and often expensive) banking supply chain involving a user, fintech, BaaS middleware provider, bank, core and the Federal Reserve. At Column, we set out to simplify and fix this. We are a bank and a software company built from the ground up, offering builders and developers technology-forward banking solutions that cut out the hundreds of vendors, middleware providers, and abstraction layers. This means a safer, more transparent, and less costly banking supply chain. Come build with us! We're headquartered in San Francisco, and have raised about $150M in equity funding from top venture capital firms including Spark Capital, American Express, Activant Capital, and more. The Job This is the perfect role for someone who wants to start their own company one day. You'll get exposure to every part of how a high-growth fintech operates - product, ops, partnerships, finance, compliance - while working directly with our COO on the highest-priority problems. We're looking for a Business Operations generalist to work with our COO on high-priority projects across the company. You'll be an extension of leadership - owning workstreams end-to-end, jumping into whatever's most important, and moving fast. This isn't a role where you'll be handed a neat list of responsibilities. You'll work on whatever matters most that week: one day you might be project-managing a feature launch for hundreds of thousands of users, the next you're negotiating a contract with a bank partner, the next you're writing training materials to scale our call center 5x in 60 days. Example Projects Product launches: Act as project manager on a new feature that will be used by hundreds of thousands of cardholders. Coordinate across engineering, compliance, and our brand partners to get it live. Write the internal PRD, track open questions, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks. Partner and vendor negotiations: Negotiate contracts with our sponsor bank, card networks, or servicing partners. Understand the terms, push back where it matters, and close deals that protect the business. Scaling operations: Write training procedures and SOPs to scale our call center from 20 to 100 agents in 60 days. Build the documentation that lets us operate at 10x our current volume. Process builds: Stand up new workflows from scratch - whether it's a closure process for a new product type, a monitoring dashboard for a partner launch, or an internal tool to track something we've been doing manually. Before You Apply A few things worth knowing: We work in the office 5 days a week. We know that's a dealbreaker for some people, and that's okay. The hours are intense - and you need to always be on. This role works closely with our COO. That means late nights, weekends, and sometimes holidays. You might get a call on a Sunday afternoon to work through a problem together, or be asked to fly to NYC with same-day notice. If work-life balance is a priority for you right now, this probably isn't the right fit. It will feel like drinking from a firehose. We're a team of ~40 doing the work of a company 2-3x our size. It will be crazier than you think, even after reading this. This is an early-stage company, and you need to be comfortable with real ambiguity. Priorities shift, projects change, and you won't always know what's coming next. If you want structure handed to you, this isn't the right fit. This job is not well-defined, and there's not a lot of direction. You'll need to figure out what needs to be done and how to do it. If you wait to be told, this isn't the right fit. We want someone who sees a problem and fixes it - without asking permission. If that scared you off, no hard feelings. If it got you excited, keep reading. Why This Role Is Cool Asymmetric ownership. You'll own high-impact, ambiguous problems end-to-end with real influence on business outcomes. You get to define this role. This isn't a job where someone hands you a playbook. You'll shape what this function looks like as we grow. First 40 employees on a winning team. Most key metrics have grown 10x since the summer and we're just getting started. You'll be part of the early team that built it. Cool projects. Work with credit card printers. Travel internationally. Partner with brands like Coinbase and Bilt that hundreds of thousands of people use every day. See how the sausage gets made. You'll have a seat at the table for board prep, partner negotiations, and product strategy. Responsibilities Own high-priority projects end-to-end across operations, product, partnerships, and finance. Act as a force multiplier for the COO - take things off his plate and run with them. Build processes, documentation, and systems as we scale. Communicate clearly across teams and with external partners. Move fast. We don't have time for perfect - we need good decisions made quickly. Requirements 3-5 years of experience in operations, consulting, or a similar high-intensity environment. MBA is a plus but not required. Excellent project management skills. You can run multiple complex workstreams without dropping balls. Strong written and verbal communication. You can write a tight email, build a clear deck, and hold your own in a room with senior stakeholders. Basic SQL and financial modeling skills are a plus. Thrives in ambiguity. You don't need a playbook to get started. San Francisco-based and in-office 5 days a week. Compensation This role has an annual starting salary range of $140,000-$190,000 + equity + benefits. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, and specific work location. Benefits We're headquartered in San Francisco, CA, with a beautiful office in the Mission District. We're proud to offer our team excellent benefits: 💸 Meaningful Start-up equity 🏥 100% health, vision & dental primary coverage ➕ 75% health, vision & dental dependent coverage 🍱 Catered lunches 🚎 $250/month Commuter benefit 👶 Parental leave ✈️ Team building events & happy hours 🌴 Flexible PTO with a minimum of 15 days off per year 🖥️ Apple equipment 💸 401k plan Location We're headquartered in San Francisco, CA, with a beautiful office in the Mission District (near Dolores Park). This role is in-office 5 days a week.

  • Entrepreneur-in-Residence (later stage)

    Edge Collaborative

    Co-owner job in Stockton, CA

The ContextOur work is grounded in the idea that some of our hardest challenges - posed by increasing inequality and climate change - are some of our biggest collective opportunities to innovate. As a civic incubator, Edge partners with public, private, and nonprofit organizations to tackle systemic economic challenges in Stockton. With a focus on three key areas - jobs and workforce, climate, and community wealth - Edge seeds and supports partner-led initiatives with a range of tools. These tools include access to capital, talent, policy support, and coalition-building. As we identify those 'edge' challenges, we partner with organizations to design creative, non-traditional solutions to them - and incubate them (anywhere from several months to several years), until the point at which they're ready to be 'spun out' to live on their own. By virtue of the way that we work, we are always interested in learning how others think about these things. The EngagementDon't see a role that's a good fit for you, but intrigued by our work as a civic incubator? We'd love to hear from you. While we have a small and mighty team that is focused on incubating existing initiatives (in Stockton, CA), we're open to meeting individuals across the US who are in pursuit of tackling civic challenges. For individuals who want to share their emerging interests and learn from the way that Edge Collaborative does civic incubation, we've created an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) engagement. The EIR opportunity is open-ended and open to interpretation - and up to the individual with the vision to propose something. What is the engagement, exactly? For inspiration, we've shared here an example of what this could look like. But don't let that limit your imagination. If you have a pressing concept or project to share, we'd love to hear from you. Please feel free to outline the answers to these questions in your proposal, in addition to whatever else you'd like to share with the Edge Collaborative team. Part A 1. What civic challenges do you believe are being ignored? Why are these critical to address now? 2. What idea (earlier stage) or concept (later stage) would you like to work on? What compelled you to think that it needs to be further explored and better understood? What initially inspired you? 3. Are you proposing to affiliate with Edge Collaborative for a shorter or longer period of time? Do you have a sense of what type of support you might require from the Edge team? Examples: intellectual sounding board, access to community relationships, technical assistance, fundraising support, etc. Are you interested in a volunteer position, or a paid one? Part B 4. Please describe your background, history and/or areas of specialization as it pertains to the civic concept that you're aiming to pursue. 5. Please describe your approach and/or methodology to building a project around the concept which you're seeking to pursue. For example, what's your preferred method for information gathering? Who would you talk to validate this effort? How would you gauge if you're on the right path, or need to pivot? 6. Please detail the high level budget under which you'd seek to advance this effort; over what period of time? What major milestones would you aim to reach within this budget? Team ValuesBeginner's mindset - we love asking the ‘stupid questions' to understand what is possible. Our greatest asset is our curiosity as beginners (not experts). We want to discover how and why particular systems and people have been historically neglected by the public and private sectors. Undaunted - we believe that bold solutions emerge from the margins (or edges, as we might say). The first answer is usually never right, but we're not afraid of being wrong. We bring a passionate persistence to breaking through the stalemates and road blocks. Boundless creativity - we thrive as a team. We take inspiration from “keystone species” in ecology - modeling our work after the resourcefulness of penguins and the vibrancy of bees. We cross-pollinate ideas, sectors, and institutions to help manifest the untapped potential of the people we serve. Humility in service of community - we care deeply about the communities in which we work, and endeavor to put their needs at the center of how we design and incubate new initiatives. We strive to balance the boldness of our imagination with the recognition that slow, sustained trust building with partners is critical to the long-term viability of the work. Sheer whimsy - we believe that serious work calls for a playful attitude, as we imagine what is possible. Play is derived from a place of joy and speaks to how we aspire to brighten our days. Plus, what's life without a lil bit of whimsy?
