Family and Children's Society company history timeline

1971

State Office, began in 1971 by individuals who wanted to make a difference in the lives of children who reside in foster care.

1976

In 1976, it moved 2 miles up the road to the current facility at 257 Main St, Binghamton, after outgrowing the Johnson City location.

1981

In 1981 the agency was granted status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and renamed Family & Children’s Service.

1985

The large picture shows her grown up - a "well educated, self-supporting, young woman - a living monument to the Society which has watched over her all these years." - Anniversary Brochure 1985, CFSM Inc.

1986

In 1986, the Community and Diocesan development teams were set up, drawing on our link to the Church of England.

1987

In 1987 the agency moved to a location in Okemos, that was dedicated to the memory of former Board President, Walter S. McLean.

1989

By 1989 we'd moved even further into the public eye, releasing a series of TV adverts to promote our work.

2013

That program began in 2013 with 13 referrals.

2015

Our Behind Cold Doors report identified that in the winter of 2015, nearly 2 million children living in poverty were in families who missed out on discounts for their gas and electric bills.

2021

Effective January 1, 2021 Child and Family Services of Michigan, Inc. no longer provides Post Adoption Services.
