1992

In 1992, Senate Bill 1383 updated the philosophy of the Lanterman Act and expanded the range of available services and supports.

2001

In 2001, only 3,800 people were still residing in state developmental centers, while over 163,000 individuals and families were receiving community-based services.

2006

A sequel to “We’re Here to Speak for Justice” was released in 2006 called “How Far We’ve Come.” The film explores the regional centers’ many accomplishments and their impact on the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

2014

In 2014, the law changed “mental retardation” to intellectual disability.

2020

The ELARC office buildings will be closed to the public beginning Friday, March 20, 2020.
