From Fence Posts to Fiber OpticsIn 1916, Golden West was the first company to stretch telephone lines across the remote plains of western South Dakota.
From those humble beginnings back in 1916, Golden West's directors and employees continue to deliver the technology and service that our customers not only value but need to be successful.
The Great Depression closed the Golden West in 1931, 25 years after it opened.
In 1943 the building became the Broadmoor Hotel, a low-cost housing development.
Those early day pioneers kept things working through natural disasters, the Great Depression and two World Wars before the company was incorporated as a Cooperative in 1952.
The Fair Housing Act of 1968 was intended to help break down the walls of segregation and poverty by protecting the fundamental right of anyone, regardless of color, to have the opportunity to live where they choose.
