Prepare all food and beverages. Keep all supplies, breakfast food and drinking products stocked and fresh. Take inventory of food, beverage and supplies. Inform management of your supply needs. Stock and restock all food, beverage, and supplies and be able to operate the service equipment.
Help other employees when needed. Refer guest requests or concerns to appropriate department. Report pertinent information to the next shift orally and in log books. Respond to guest issues received by other employees. Continue and maintain a working relationship with other employees.
Each employee is part of the hotel security team and is responsible for reporting any potential hazards to the management and should investigate in the absence of the manager any alleged injuries which occur on the premises. An Incident Report (for guests) or Accident Report (for employee) should be completed. Show concern and consideration for the guest, but never acknowledge responsibility.
Know where gas, electric, water cut off, and breakers are located. Know location of emergency lights.
Understand the relationship of complimentary service to guest satisfaction and other areas of the hotel. Pour coffee and juice when refills are needed. Provide accurate information and directions to guests.
Perform all duties assigned by manager. The host/hostess may be called upon to help in short-staffed areas. He/she must undergo all the screening questions before performing those job descriptions.

The Position
The Sutton Commons is Roanoke College's all-you-care-to-eat dining commons, located in the Colket Community Center. “The Commons” serves students, faculty, staff, and other campus guests. The part-time non-benefitted Dish Room Attendant position supports daily operations by providing clean and sanitized china, flatware, utensils, glassware, supplies, and other equipment used to prepare foods or serve our guests. This role is essential for safe foodservice operation. This position reports to Sutton Commons management. The anticipated start date for this position is August 11th.
Key Responsibilities:
Serves as a representative of Roanoke College, displaying courtesy, tact and respect in all interaction with our students, members of the RC community and with the public.
Serve customers with enthusiasm in a positive and friendly manner
Apply proper methods of safety and sanitation as instructed by the VDH and Dining Services.
Ensure cleanliness and proper storage of all dishware, glassware, utensils, and other equipment.
Maintain the cleanliness of the dishroom area and equipment.
Help maintain the safe operation of the dish machine by routine inspection, cleaning, and safe use of chemicals.
Vacuum the commons before and after lunch.
Complete station assignment responsibilities and help elsewhere as needed.
Follow policy and procedures as established by Dining Service Management.
Alerts managers to discrepancies, and equipment or product damage.
Ensure daily and weekly cleaning tasks are completed as required in the dish room.
Perform other duties as required.
Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
Depending on assignment, mornings, weekday and weekend availability required.
Ability to meticulously maintain a clean and safe food service environment
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to solve problems and work independently.
Positive communication with guests and co-workers is essential
Required to obtain ServSafe certification within 6 months of hire.
