KSYM RADIO company history timeline

1926

The campus was moved in 1926 to the 400 block of South Alamo Street, once home to the German-English school.

1945

San Antonio Community College District was created in December, 1945, when voters of four local high school districts approved the formation of a community college district.

1946

In August 1946, San Antonio Junior College was renamed again after control of the school passed from the board of trustees.

SAC opened in the fall of 1946 with 635 students occupying a few Spanish-tiled buildings and temporary Navy barracks clustered below the San Jose Hills.

1951

In January 1951, San Antonio College moved to its present site on San Pedro Avenue across from San Pedro Park.

1966

The result of the survey was KSYM. In fact, SYM, part of the station’s call letters, stands for, “Symbol of Sound Education.” The first full day of program testing occurred August 6, 1966.

Ron Lucke was Chairman of the Speech Department in 1966.

1992

In April 1992, KSYM installed a new eight bay antenna that boosted its effective power to 3000 watts.

2009

In 2009 trustees approved that the ACCD be referred to as Alamo Colleges District to encompass all five colleges.
