Working as a Substitute with HDESD requires a high level of flexibility and adaptability, as Substitutes are eligible to work throughout the region in multiple districts, multiple schools, any subject, and any grade level.
Licensed Substitute Teachers:
Work a flexible schedule on an as-needed basis, and have the ability to assign themselves to jobs via the absence management online computer application system up to one month in advance.
Are responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and facilitating student learning in the absence of the regular Educator.
Perform under the supervision of a building administrator or other designated supervisor, and have the responsibility to continue the instructional program according to the directions left by the absent Educator.

Individuals that hold a teacher leader position will help facilitate each area listed below, and will focus on areas that capitalize upon personal areas of strength while providing input and collaboration with the principal and building teams. In addition, the teacher leader will have training opportunities to further develop their leadership skills. This leader will work with the other teacher leaders in the building to lead the work mentioned below.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a member of the principal's school leadership team.
Lead to create a positive school culture.
Collaboratively plan for 2-3 PLC meetings per month.
Be willing to demonstrate and share best teaching practices with others. This may include but is not limited to best instructional strategies, model PLCs, and teaching demonstrations.
Participate in leadership development opportunities including PLC training, PLC planning, instructional analysis, and collaborative walk through/demonstrations lessons (scrub ins) as calendared.
Attend PLC training and serve as a leader and facilitator at the department level and within the school, training others and offering support and guidance in the PLC process.
Participate in training and develop a deeper understanding in both Tier 2 practices (differentiation strategies) and effective feedback strategies (rubrics, feedback, flexible grouping) in the classroom.
Participate in training on peer observation best practices.
Effectively communicate with colleagues and other stakeholders about school leadership meetings, school performance plan goals & strategies for achievement.
Lead PLCs: Plan meetings with administrative support; keep track of PLC work and data, organize and post assessments, calendars, data, progress, etc.
Attend meetings, trainings, and events outside of the regular contract day both in the assigned school and at the district level (see attached calendar).
Report progress of the team back to the overseeing administrator and provide data for the school and department scorecards and SLGs.
Assist in school initiatives such as the RTI process, PLCs, and student engagement best practices.
Availability to attend 1.5 days of on-site training in August to help prepare for inservice week [tentatively August 18, 2025 (8 hours) + school level team building (4 hours) during the week of 8/18-8/22, determined by the building administrator]
Availability to attend professional development during 2 scheduled Individual SIWs.
Partner with principals to ensure licensed employees are familiar with standards of professional practice for licensed educators.
Support colleagues with the navigation and use of TED.
Contribute to district evaluation team discussions and plans for enhancing our educator effectiveness system.

If a teacher leader is unable to attend any of the required opportunities, the principal may reserve the right
to reassign those hours to perform a different duty.

Position Summary:
Behavior programs provide services to children with emotional and /or behavioral needs that adversely affect their education performance; these services may include youth deemed to be delinquent. Under the direction of the classroom teacher and/or administrator, provides support services in classrooms, resource centers, or other program related areas. The assistant directs involvement in the instructional program for assigned students and their identified needs. Duties and responsibilities depend on class/program assignments.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Follow the direction of the teacher, team leader or supervisor in a cooperative manner
Learn techniques, procedures and routines quickly and competently
Elicit specific behaviors from children as indicated by the instructional program
Develop and maintain harmonious working relationships with students, families, volunteers, other staff members and the general public according to program design
Assist the teacher, team leader or supervisor in working with children, either individually or in groups
Assist in all phases of the daily operations of the program
Assist in maintaining the student's life skills such as dressing, hygiene, toileting and feeding students
Assist with the integration of children into a variety of settings
Assist with appropriate assessments of students
Assist with implementing individualized educational plans, such as IFSP, IEP, 504, PEP, BIP
Prepare instructional materials and operate instructional equipment
Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
Record student progress and /or other records as requested
Manage student behavior across setting using consistent and positive intervention strategies
Maintain a neat and orderly environment
Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers
Communicate regularly and appropriately through the use of email

Minimum Qualifications:
There is a minimum requirement of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Two years experience or previous training with children in a similar program required.
The assistant must be able to work independently with minimum direction.
The employee must possess good organizational skills and good command of the English language.
Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed and a genuine interest in and ability to relate to students is expected.
Ability to perform significant reaching, bending, stooping, crouching and lifting 50 pounds is expected.
Must have access to reliable transportation, and consistent attendance is required.
Applicants must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, and/or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to equity and strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population.
Qualifications specific to personnel working in behavior programs: Must have the ability to use de-escalating strategies with children, including physical restraint where appropriate. Must have the ability to remain calm and make non-emotional decisions in trying circumstances.
