JOB DESCRIPTION: Tutor
REPORTS TO: Principal
SALARY GRADE:
NATURE OF WORK: An employee in this position is responsible for tutoring a selected group of students that are demonstrating deficiencies in identified areas. Work requires a broad understanding and detailed knowledge of reading/math instruction. Program tasks include the provision of instructional and support services.
School term tutorial tasks are directed and supervised by teachers and principal(s).
Work is evaluated by the Principal and Director through observations, work performed, and conferences.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist students according to project objectives
Provides school and program information to teachers, students and their parents
Provides appropriate instructional and support services
Prepares, maintains, and complete required work logs, schedules, forms, and reports
Participates in assigned staff development activities to improve job skills
Performs related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to work with a diverse group of people, establish relationships, build and maintain a high level of confidence and support with students, parents, co-workers, and supervisors
Ability to learn, trainable, and work effectively as a team member
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
Must be able to perform work exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a reasonable amount of force frequently, to lift and/or carry children and frequently carry, push, or otherwise move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate instructional and office machines, produce written work, and read.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Graduation from high school with some related post-secondary training and/or work experience.

Additional units were established in Ayden in 1993, Farmville in 1995 and Uptown Greenville in 2007. The Grady-White Boats/E.R. Lewis Family Unit was opened in 2007. The Club in Ayden relocated in April of 2010 and was named the Dr. Ledyard E. Ross Unit. The organization assumed responsibility for the Club in Lenoir County in 2010, two Clubs in Beaufort County in 2013, opened a new Club in November 2013 within Greene County Intermediate School and its 10th Club in Robersonville at East End Elementary School in January 2016. Today, more than 1,300 at-risk and in-need young people are taking advantage of the programs, activities and services provided by Clubs. In 2015, the organization changed its name to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain to properly represent its presence in Pitt, Lenoir, Beaufort, Greene, Martin, Carteret and Craven Counties.
