Overview
Our General Surgery Physician Assistants (PAs) have a variety of responsibilities and duties that help support the needs of our patients and the community. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Pre-operative Care:
-Conduct patient histories and physical exams.
-Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., labs, imaging).
-Educate patients about surgical procedures, risks, and recovery.
Intra-operative Assistance:
-Assist surgeons during operations (e.g., retracting tissues, suturing, controlling bleeding).
-Ensure sterile field maintenance and proper surgical instrumentation.
-Perform minor surgical procedures under supervision.
Post-operative Management:
-Monitor patients in recovery and manage wound care.
-Remove sutures, drains, and staples.
-Adjust treatment plans based on patient progress.
-Provide discharge instructions and follow-up care.
Administrative Duties:
-Document patient encounters and surgical notes.
-Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive care.
-Ensure compliance with hospital protocols and healthcare regulations.

* Instructs patients on urine collection procedures.
* Assists patients with donning/doffing compression garments as needed.
* Assists with dressing removal as assigned by supervising clinician.Administration* Maintains confidentiality of patient information at all times.
* Answers, evaluates and prioritizes incoming telephone calls, communicates effectively with callers, obtains complete and accurate information to determine the need(s) of the caller, and returns messages in a timely manner to ensure patient needs are met.
* Performs pre-visit review to ensure the medical record has all information needed for the visit including (but not limited to): hospital notes, immunization records, consents, test results, disease management items.
