Up until the last few weeks of his life he enjoyed good health and continued with his hobby which was renovating grandfather clocks and mantlepiece clocks, his son now runs the clock restoration business full time. It is our intention to introduce some wooden replica military mantlepiece clocks in the near future based on a RAF Mess clock from 1927 which Wolfgang owned.

The impetus for building Midwest City began in 1940 when the United States War Department began expanding the United States Army Air Corps, constructing air bases around the nation in locations with good year-round flying weather.

After conferring with Pentagon officials to ascertain their needs, Atkinson began home construction in April 1942 at the corner of East Trumbull and East Boeing streets.

The city, which was incorporated on March 11, 1943, was named for the air field's original designation as the Midwest Air Depot.

By 1946 Mott's idea for an attractive city had developed in a logical manner, gaining the attention of the national print and broadcast media.

In 1947, returning veteran Nicholas Harroz opened Nick's Brett Drive Grocery, which later became Crest Discount Foods.

In 1948 Midwest City citizens voted to change their form of government to a charter-council-city manager form to manage the continuing growth.

In 1949 Hazel opened the Jack and Jill preschool, a day-care facility.

In 1951 the National Association of Home Builders recognized Midwest City as "America's Model City." The town's streets were still dirt and gravel, with the exception of one mile of Air Depot Boulevard, which had been paved.

His business prospered, and in 1953 he moved to a larger building in Atkinson Plaza.

In 1957 Paul Hudiburg, a Buick and Pontiac dealer in Okemah, Oklahoma, moved to Midwest City and purchased the Chevrolet dealership.

In 1959 the city fathers succeeded in securing a bond issue to build a regional medical facility.

Midwest City's regional hospital was dedicated October 6, 1962, built with the use of bond money.

The project was 95 percent complete in 1967 when the city received an award from the Oklahoma Good Roads and Streets Association.

In September 1970 the first classes were held at Oscar Rose Junior College (now Rose State College), named for Midwest City–Del City (Mid-Del) Superintendent of Schools Oscar V. Rose.

The MACW formed in 1977 after the “status of women’s athletics” on MCAC campuses was assessed and reported to be growing.

The Heritage Park Mall opened in 1978 on North Air Depot and was a prime shopping area in the city for several decades.

The first official GSM World Congress was held in Rome in 1990 with just a few hundred attendees.

For the first few years it moved to a new city each time, passing through Nice, Berlin, Lisbon, Athens, and Madrid before settling in Cannes in 1996 where it stayed for a decade.

Portions of Midwest City, particularly northwest of Tinker Air Force Base, sustained extreme damage from a violent tornado that swept through the southern and eastern areas of the Oklahoma City metro on May 3, 1999.

In 2003, the Reed Center, a 60,000-square-foot convention center, was built.

In 2007 there was a lot of buzz about video on mobile, whether it was video calls, movies or TV. Motorola was still spinning off the Razr brand, BlackBerry showed off the 8800, you could lay hands on the LG Prada, and HTC showed a handful of Windows Mobile handsets.

The show settled there and became MWC in 2008.

Things were looking decidedly ropy for Motorola in 2009, but Sony Ericsson showed off the first 12MP camera in a phone, the Palm Pre was at the show, and Vodafone unveiled the HTC Magic which was the first Android phone to make its debut at MWC. It certainly wouldn’t be the last.

At the turn of the twenty-first century Midwest City had 54,088 residents, and the 2010 census recorded 54,371.

But it’s new releases at the show in 2011 included the ill-advised Facebook phones, the Salsa and ChaCha, and a host of confusing updates that tagged the letter S onto the Incredible, the Desire, and the Wildfire.

There were some impressive new Android phones on display at MWC 2013, but most of them, including the Sony Xperia Z, HTC One, and LG Optimus G Pro had already been announced before the show.
