Position Overview
As a Petco Certified Dog Trainer, you will play a vital role in furthering Petco's mission as a Pet Health and Wellness company by enhancing the bond between pet parents and their dog companions. Your expertise in modern dog training techniques and positive reinforcement methods will help pet parents develop well-behaved, happy, and healthy dogs. You will provide one-on-one training sessions, group classes, and offer advice on basic training, environmental management, and customized training plans to address specific training goals. The Dog Trainer role consists of 2 core responsibilities:
Provide World Class Dog Training Services
* Attend and successfully pass Petco's 6-week Dog Trainer Instructor Program led by a Petco Certified Dog Trainer Mentor/Academy Instructor.
* Complete all assigned Workday Learning modules and DTIP Student Workbook materials per the DTIP roadmap.
* Recommend and sell appropriate dog training classes, training, and supplies to ensure pet parents and their dogs have the necessary resources for a successful dog training experience.
* Keep accurate records of training sessions, progress, and pet parents' feedback.
* Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
* Work cross functionally with the grooming and veterinary teams to provide holistic whole health solutions for all pet parents.
* Complete and apply ongoing training programs to maintain a high level of expertise in the role.
Provide 360-Degree Solutions for all Petco Guests
* Provide an outstanding guest experience by actively engaging with guests in the recommendation and selection of merchandise and services in accordance with their identified needs.

Certification Requirements

* Stage 2: Dog Trainer: Successfully run and grow the dog training business in one of Petco's Pet Care Centers with local and national marketing support, with access to internal partner resources, networking, and client acquisition through our state-of-the-art online booking and scheduling systems.
* Stage 3: Complete the Health & Wellness Certification Program for Dog.
* Note: Approved candidates with prior experience that can pass both skill and knowledge assessments may be eligible for accelerated training.
Basic Qualifications

Demonstrates knowledge of infection control by showing proper handling of equipment, soiled linen, bedpans, urinals, and frequent and adequate hand washing
Maintains clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for residents, family members, visitors, guests and other staff members, including housekeeping duties as assigned
Reports deficiencies observed in resident apartments, clothing, linens or anywhere else inside or outside the building
Observes any changes in resident physical or mental status and communicates these observations to the Resident Care Director or acting supervisor in a timely manner to allow for a proactive response
Follows Community policy and procedures detailed in safety and disaster manuals and is thoroughly familiar with fire, missing persons and other emergency procedures
Avoids loss, breakage, and waste of supplies and equipment
Answers Community telephone promptly in a polite, courteous and intelligible manner; takes messages accurately and neatly and files those messages appropriately for staff to retrieve
Provides supportive marketing services for after-hours inquiries, completing appropriate inquiry forms for follow-up by the Community Relations Director during the next business day
Assures door is alarmed at all times

Summary of Duties of the Resident CareAssistant
The primary responsibility of the Resident CareAssistant (RCA) is to provide physical and psychosocial care to all residents in a manner that promotes dignity, choice, and individuality. The Resident CareAssistant reports to the shift supervisor as well as the Wellness Director.
Essential Functions of the Resident CareAssistant
Provides all necessary care and services to assigned residents and assists other wellness department associates as needed.
Works collaboratively with peers and other team members.
Provides assistance with activities of daily living such as with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene (includes: shaving, oral care, nail care, hair care, foot care), toileting, eating, and ambulation/mobility.
Maintains professional demeanor at all times when interacting with residents and families.
Reports any suspected or witnessed instances of verbal, mental, or physical abuse to licensed staff immediately.
Utilizes safe transfer techniques when assisting residents with mobility.
Washes residents' laundry as needed.
Understands and uses Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Standard Precautions, OSHA's Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens standard, and follows established infection control procedures, hazardous communication, and other safety rules.
Documents provision of services on company forms.
Operates designated medical equipment, copy, scan, fax machines, and telephone.
Escorts residents and coordinates internal transportation needs.
Assists residents with personal correspondence/telephone use when requested.
Observes and reports changes in residents' physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to Wellness Director or supervisor, as needed.
Conducts room checks and resident rounds.
Monitors for environmental safety hazards.
Respond to emergencies in a prompt and calm manner; Immediately reports such emergencies to the supervisor.
Uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in potentially sensitive or emotionally charged situations.
Follows-up with appropriate staff, residents, or other individuals regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
Non-Essential Functions of the Resident CareAssistant
Participates in and supports the resident-centered activities program.
Care for sensory enhancement devices such as eyeglasses and hearing aids.
Completes housekeeping tasks such as bed-making, linen changes, vacuuming, emptying trash, and cleaning bathroom.
Acts as ambassador and public relations representative to guests and other off-campus visitors.
Copies special paperwork or forms.
Assists in a variety of tasks related to dining (escort residents to dining room, assist with set-up and clean tables, serve meals, bus tables, etc.).
Demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values and wisdom of the residents, and an understanding of the aging process.
Collaborates with associates in other departments to assure necessary care and services are provided.
Participates in projects or committees as assigned.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Attends and participates in staff meetings and mandatory in-services.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience
Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
Satisfactory completion of the company Resident Assistant skills competency checklist.
Be in good physical health and free of communicable diseases; Lifting, bending, and pushing medication cart about residence is required.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
Completion of drug testing and criminal background check upon hire and upon request of supervisor.
Experience in Assisted Living preferred.
