ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories. Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs. Prescribes, recommends and/or employs medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatments and procedures or performs indicated procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policies with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks. Formulates and implements comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans based on patient assessments, evidence-based medicine, standards of care, professional practice guidelines and in partnership with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient?s response to health care provided and the effectiveness of care. Counsels patients and families regarding medical processes, management of the health illness/condition, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over the counter medications and herbal remedies. Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient?s treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice and/or expertise. Provides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider?s specialty and training. Manages patients in a healthcare setting(s) other than primary clinic setting (e.g., inpatient, emergency services, procedural, etc.). Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and competency of the provider as delegated by supervising Physician. May be required to perform patient care duties beyond regular schedule based on coverage needs of the department. Essential Duties: • Provide Podiatry care to primary care and referred patients. • Plan, promote, demonstrate, recommend and coordinate high standards of Podiatric medical practice. • Demonstrated expertise in relevant medical practices, protocol, trends and best practices in clinical areas assigned. • Demonstrated knowledge and success in effecting overall clinical operations. • Proficiency in the use of a computer, software packages, and office machines. • Work within the scope of credentialing privileges. • Prepare and review medical histories and obtain data through interviews. • Examine patients, formulate diagnostic plans, define and order required diagnostic testing. • Interpret examination findings and test results, and implement treatment plans. • Determine need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists. • Participate in other care procedures according to training and demonstrated ability. • Observe that communications with patients are culturally and linguistically appropriate. • Interview patient, obtain patient history, update all information and documents in EHR according to standards. • Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise • Provide consultation to the nurses and clinical staff. • Consult with other staff physicians and para-medical personnel regarding medical management of patients and common podiatry problems encountered in the clinic. • Confer on the planning and direction of the primary care team as it relates to the podiatry. • Within scope of credentialing, may perform surgeries and surgical care in Ancillary Surgery Center or hospital settings; • Perform the following procedures: nail debridement, callus trimmings, wart excision, ingrown nail excision, injection therapy (corticosteroids, local anesthetics), excision cutaneous skin lesions, nail matrixectomy/avulsions, skin ulcer treatment (debridement), strapping/taping of the foot and ankle, and closed reductions of minor foot fractures. • Diagnostics including weight bearing x-ray • Interpreting x-ray and and ultrasound results • Use of Diagnostic Ultrasound (US guided injections, diagnosis of Soft tissue masses) • Perform other duties as assigned. Ability to develop and implement comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans. Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests. Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas. Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire or transfer. Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).
