Full-Time Campus Safety Officer (Second and Third Shift Position) Shorter's Campus Safety Officer performs safety, loss prevention, parking and traffic control duties within the University campus, conducts regular vehicular and foot patrols, responds to urgent/emergency situations as appropriate. The Campus Safety Officer enforces University parking and traffic regulations, provides directions and information, and renders assistance (including CPR and first aid) to students, faculty, staff and visitors to campus. The Campus Safety Officer is instrumental in crime and theft prevention through active security efforts which include, but are not limited to making office, classroom and dorm visits, providing safety and security as required, and having positive interaction with the students, faculty, and staff. Works under the general supervision of an assigned sergeant. Performs a wide range of law enforcement functions including making arrests, issuing traffic tickets, crowd control and investigative work to promote public safety and security, crime prevention and general enforcement of the law. Patrols assigned area to control traffic, prevent crime or disturbance of peace, and arrest violators as required. Officers will be issued various equipment to include a patrol car with radio, portable radio, various weapons, shoes and uniforms. Position Description ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Patrols the city to detect and deter criminal activity and traffic violations. Responds to calls for service, including domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, traffic accidents, lost or missing persons searches, public service duties, stranded motorists, and others. Conducts preliminary investigations into traffic accidents and other incidents, including interviewing victims, complainants and witnesses, gathering information and evidence, and securing crime scenes. Apprehends, arrests, and processes offenders, including fugitives; subpoenas witnesses. Provides assistance and backup support to other officers and emergency service providers as necessary.
