JOB SUMMARY
Facilitates communication between hearing and deaf or hard of hearing individuals in classrooms and meetings using American SignLanguage or other manual sign system; serves as a liaison between deaf or hard of hearing students, hearing students and instructors; and performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides sign-languageinterpreter services.
Interprets lectures, discussions, announcements, conversations, meetings, events, and other spoken word situations using American SignLanguage or other manual sign system appropriate for the language and the cultural background of deaf or hard of hearing students and staff.
Maintains awareness of best practices, emerging trends and new legislation relating to SignLanguage/Interpreting functional area.
Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.
Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events.
Uses interpersonal skills and makes sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to accurately interpret spoken language to signlanguage and interpretsign to spoken language for lecture classes, physical education classes, labs, meetings and various assignments as scheduled; follow and give oral and written directions; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population; maintain cooperative working relationships.
Knowledge of American SignLanguage or other sign system used by students; technical signs or specialized vocabulary used in the courses assigned; deaf culture, local deaf community, and resources for the deaf; specialized equipment for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently.

This Non-Exempt | Part-Time position currently best aligns with the Army Interpreter Labor Category and ideal candidates exhibit the ability to visualize, analyze, and convert data and experiences to meet performance challenges while confidently engaging in productive “Jugaad” and dialogue targeting mission success. ProSidian Team Members work to provide American SignLanguage (ASL) interpretation services to support hard of hearing and/or deaf employees and customers at the Letterkenny Army Depot and surrounding areas on an as needed basis.
American SignLanguage (ASL) Interpreter - Letterkenny Army Depot Candidates shall work to support requirements for Enter GSA SIN and provide American SignLanguage (ASL) interpretation services to support hard of hearing and/or deaf employees and customers at the Letterkenny Army Depot and surrounding areas on an as needed basis.
Responsibilities of the ASL Interpreter will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Providing ASL interpretation services on an as-needed basis.
Translating spoken and written English to hard of hearing and/or deaf employes and customers.

Qualifications
The American SignLanguage (ASL) Interpreter - Letterkenny Army Depot shall have consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years, Must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and related tools and technology required for the position. Work products shall be thorough, accurate, appropriately documented, and comply with established criteria. All employees, in the performance of their respective responsibilities, shall conduct themselves in the highest possible standards of ethical and business conduct. The candidate shall ensure that duties are performed in a competent and professional manner that meets milestones/delivery schedules as outlined.
The ASL Interpreter must have the following qualifications:
Six (6) years of ASL interpreting experience post interpreter certification in a professional setting,
OR
A Bachelor's Degree in a related field (ASL Interpreting, Deaf Studies, ASL Studies, ASL Linguistics),
AND
Four (4) years of ASL interpreting experience post interpreter certification/degree in a professional setting,
OR

AND
Three (3) years of ASL interpreting experience post interpreter certification/degree in a professional setting.

The ability to interpret fluently: Sign simultaneously and/or consecutively from oral spoken English into ASL and voice from ASL to oral spoken English, as required.
The ability to interpret for meaning: Sign simultaneously and/or consecutively using verbatim, conceptually accurate or idiomatic methods, as required.
High degree of accuracy of interpretation.
Willingness to provide, accept, and incorporate feedback from the COR, from other interpreters, and from Federal employees/contractors.
Previous experience in effectively interpreting on a consistent basis for US Government DP employee(s) highly preferred.
Possess linguistic and cultural expertise in both ASL and English to provide fluent communication for all LEAD employees, contractors, and guests.
Willingness to learn Army terminology, and processes and procedures.
Willingness to learn Federal, Department of Defense, and Department of Army terminology in ASL.
Linguistic and cultural expertise in both ASL and English to provide fluent communication for all Army employees, contractors, and guests (ASL to be assessed by the employee, and English to be assessed by GS employee).
The ability to interpret subject matter ranging from simple statement of facts to complex and specialized terminology.
Some emergency and after hours interpretation services may be required. The candidate will be given a minimum of forty eight (48) hours notice in the event emergency service is needed.

Compensation Type: Salaried Compensation: $51,701.00 A Staff Interpreter works full-time as needed to provide interpreting services for students who are d/Deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing to ensure appropriate accommodations in academic settings, meetings with faculty and staff, and campus events. May work evening and weekend hours in-person at the various Columbus State Campuses and Regional Learning Centers and/or virtually contingent upon student need and assignment/course modality.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Accommodation Delivery
* Interprets for students, faculty, staff, and visitors who are d/Deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing using American SignLanguage, Signed English, and/or Tactile/Pro Tactile. Interprets for non-signing hearing students, faculty, and visitors using spoken English.
* Engages in pre- and post-conferencing with peers, supervisor, and consumers. Prepares for classroom interpretation by reviewing textbooks, assignments, videos, and other related material via Blackboard. Educates campus members regarding interpreter roles and accommodations for deaf and hard of hearing students. Maintains confidentiality of student records and other confidential information.
* Provides functional guidance to practicum students as they prepare to graduate from the College's interpreting education program.
* Stays abreast of trends impacting the profession and consumer population through professional development activities. Facilitates interdepartmental outreach and collaboration.
* Assists with scheduling interpreting staff for team interpreting in the classroom, campus events, and substitute interpreting to ensure each student is matched with interpreters with appropriate language skills for maximum communication access.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
* Associate's Degree in Interpreting/Transliterating
* One (1) years of closely related experience.
* Ability to work towards the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) National Certification.
* State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
* *An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify a candidate.
