* Provides sign-language interpreter services.
* Interprets lectures, discussions, announcements, conversations, meetings, events, and other spoken word situations using American Sign Language or other manual sign system appropriate for the language and the cultural background of deaf or hard of hearing students and staff.
* Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.
* Uses interpersonal skills and makes sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed between coworkers, the supervisory chain, faculty, staff, students, and customers.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Interpreter's specific duties will be individualized according to the needs of the child, the student's IEP, and the profile of the current educational placement. Has the primary responsibility to provide direct support to deaf or hard of hearing students during all or part of a school day as part of an educational team, and as indicated in the student's IEP; participates in and follows the student's IEP and the modifications and instructional techniques recommended by related service staff; become proficient in students' individual communication methods and strategies; creates instructional materials as needed; accompanies and supports the student during community-based instruction; maintains communication between home and school.
Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience:

The Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia is seeking applicants for the position of Spanish Language Court Interpreter. This position reports directly to an Interpreter Team Leader in the Department of Judicial Services, or the Foreign Language Services Coordinator in their stead. The primary obligation of the Staff Interpreter is to overcome language barriers so that limited English proficient parties will have meaningful access to justice and suffer no advantage or disadvantage as compared to English-speaking defendants and other parties during legal proceedings. The highest posted salary is for a Certified Interpreter, but this vacancy may be filled by a Language Access Assistant who will be mentored toward certification. Educational Interpreters must annually complete 20 hours of training related to interpreting approved by the local education agency. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state of North Carolina. Must maintain a safe driving record.
Grade 6410I- Educational Interpreter I must have a minimum Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of a 3.3 for educational interpreters or a TECUnit score of a level 2 for cued language transliterators. To maintain employment, the educational interpreter/transliterator must meet the requirements for Educational Interpreter II within three years of employment. Educational Interpreter I is an entry level classification. Starting Salary: $19.06 per hour.
Grade 6610I- Educational Interpreter II must have an EIPA score of a 3.5 for educational interpreters or a TECUnit score of a level 3 for cued language transliterators and a minimum of three years of experience in the educational setting. An EIPA score of 3.5 is the new minimum standard requirement. Starting Salary: $20.51 per hour.
Grade 6810I- Educational Interpreter III must have an EIPA score of a 4.0, a cued language transliterator must have a TECUnit score of a level 3, or either may hold a national certification. Five years of experience in the educational setting is also required. Starting Salary: $22.19 per hour.
