Under the supervision of the Exceptional Children's Director or other designee, and Teacher of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing, the educational interpreter assists teachers and offers support in the implementation of instructional activities in the school setting. He/she will use a variety of methods, materials, and equipment at the direction of and in support of the Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Facilitates communication between the student and his peers and the student and adults in the school environment. Studies the lesson content prior to class to ensure an accurate representation of the material. Tutors students who are deaf or hard of hearing under the direction of the teacher. Provides feedback to teachers upon request. Serves as a liaison to promote positive and cooperative relationships within the school environment. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Follows all school policies as stated in individual school handbooks.     Exceptional Children's Spanish Interpreter Reports To: Executive Director of Special Education Purpose: The Spanish Interpreter for the Special Education Department facilitates accurate and confidential communication between Spanish-speaking parents/guardians and school personnel regarding special education services. Skills & Competencies * Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, and families. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. * Commitment to ongoing skill development and culturally responsive practices in Deaf education. * Professional demeanor with respect for diverse learners and communication needs. Work Environment * Typical school environment with interaction across age groups and school settings. * May require attendance at school events or meetings outside standard hours.
