ROLE:
Leverage knowledge of the language, culture, politics, military, economy, and current events of regions of interest to produce high-quality translations, gists, and sight translations of collected material.
Perform full translations and interpretation of spoken language and provide written gists of collected material from foreign language to English and vice versa.
Conduct sight translations and verbal gists of foreign language materials into English.
Use a variety of Microsoft (MS) Office software programs as well as Adobe Acrobat and other tools to track information and report on collected material.
SKILLS NEEDED:
A Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 5 years of foreign language experience.
Strong Expertise in Spanish Language with a near native proficiency.
Defense Language Proficiency Test scores (minimum 3/3), or ILR level of 3-4.
Experience in one or more of the following areas: counterintelligence, HUMINT, military operations, OSINT, or the use of social media platforms and mobile applications
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

The Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia is seeking applicants for the position of Spanish Language Court Interpreter. This position reports directly to an Interpreter Team Leader in the Department of Judicial Services, or the Foreign Language Services Coordinator in their stead. The primary obligation of the Staff Interpreter is to overcome language barriers so that limited English proficient parties will have meaningful access to justice and suffer no advantage or disadvantage as compared to English-speaking defendants and other parties during legal proceedings. The highest posted salary is for a Certified Interpreter, but this vacancy may be filled by a Language Access Assistant who will be mentored toward certification. That salary is $60,000 and requires that the individual seek mentorship from qualified coworkers and pursue certification while employed.

Job Overview:
The Interpreter provides interpretation for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients, their families, providers, and staff. Your background and experience:
Work Experience: 1 + years of medical interpreting experience or a successful internship program required. Experience working in medical or human services setting preferred.
Certifications are not compulsory, but desirable. At least a high school diploma or equivalent. For Certified Interpreters: CMI, CHI, CCHI, Interpreting diploma from an interpreting school, NBCMI, 40-hour medical interpreting course.
Fluency in spoken and written English and the language of interpreting, with a preference for native-level fluency in the language of interpreting. Professional-level medical interpreting and short non-publication translation skills are required.

The Successful Candidate will assume responsibility for a variety of functions, which include, but are not limited to:
Proactively responds to requests for language access in a healthcare setting. This includes but is not limited to: In-person interpreting, telephone interpreting, video interpreting, basic translation.

Leverages the use of technology, as needed, to deliver services in a variety of different modalities. Troubleshoots basic application issues with software and customer as needed.

Interprets information regarding the patient's and family's healthcare needs. Scenarios may include patient education, appointments, discharge instructions, procedures, emergency encounters, assessments, etc.
Serves as a conduit to interpret as accurately and concisely as possible while considering cultural implications and idiomatic language differences.
Acts as a cultural broker by educating caregivers on the understanding of patient's culture in relationship to healthcare.
Fully abides by the healthcare system's professional conduct standards, executes job duties in an ethical manner, and follows national practice standards
Translates basic written information as needed and within department guidelines.
Serves as a cultural mediator and educates customers appropriately.
