Primary Purpose:
Help meet physical and instructional needs of individual students with disabilities inside and outside classroom. Assist with the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, moderate behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
• 48+ Earned College Credits, Associates degree preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
1. Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
2. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
3. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
4. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
5. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Student Management
6. Help meet the individual needs of student(s) including transferring to and from wheelchairs; lifting and positioning; interpreting instructions; and assisting with physical needs and personal care such as feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
7. Help manage the behavior of assigned student(s). This includes incidents that are more severe or frequent, potentially causing harm or significant disruption, including physical aggression like hitting, kicking, biting, or elopement.
8. Recognize differences in student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs and adapt methods and interaction according.
9. Work with assigned student(s) or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
10. Help supervise and assist assigned students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
11. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of assigned student(s).

Duties and Responsibilities:

JOB GOAL
Under direct supervision, performs instructional duties or may deliver direct services to students or parents. Serves in a position for which a teacher or another professional has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services. Assists with test administration. May provide specialized assistance for students with special needs.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
o High School Diploma or G.E.D.
o Minimum of 48 college hours is preferred.
o Experience working with children is preferred.
o Texas Educational Aide Certification is preferred or the ability to acquire it.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Assists teacher(s) with student academic goals, by working with small groups of children or an individual child.
oAssists teacher(s) in the enforcement of classroom management and behavioral plans, creating an environment that is
appropriate for learning.
o Assists with supervising students during breakfast, recess, lunch, dismissal, special events, and programs.
o Assists teacher(s) in the preparation of paperwork for the ARD/IEP process. Collects and enters data for completion of special
education reports and documents.
o Assists teacher(s) with the planning, preparation and implementation of differentiated instruction for individual students
and groups.
o Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
o Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external
to the district.
o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
o Ability to organize special programs for assigned campus.
o Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software,
calculator, copy machine and telephone.
o Ability to analyze data
o Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
o Light Work: may require occasional light lifting.
o Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
o Position is in classroom setting and requires intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.
o Moderate travel is required.

* Adaptive Behavior aides earn an additional $2,000 annual stipend.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Help teacher prepare and adapt instructional materials and classroom displays.
* Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
* Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment, books and supplies.
* Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
* Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
* Assist students with disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting and positioning.
* Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene.
* Help manage behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
* Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs.
* Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
* Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus and playground duty, and travel to on-the-job training.
* Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
* Maintain confidentiality.
* Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal or other school personnel supervisor.
* Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
* Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students
* Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
* Motion: Frequent walking and reaching
* Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours
* Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise, exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
* Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress
