The Bank of Missouri company history timeline

1903

In 1903 Schuette married his second wife Lena Springer.

In 1903 the Washburn School open with Martin Bender as the teacher.

1904

Ancell was laid out and the first mayor, Mat Thomas, elected in 1904.

In December 1904 the town of Illmo tried to annex all of the land where the railroad building were and part of the Schuette farm.

All three towns started about the same time 1904 and had a lot of the same growing pains.

1905

So in 1905 the post office became Fornfelt.

In 1905 the Bank of Edna open and Henry Schuette was named president.

The O. K. Barber Shop was established in 1905 by Mr.

1906

In 1906 the telephone co. started installing wire from Cape Girardeau to Fornfelt for telephone use.

1907

In 1907, the General Assembly revised the banking statutes and created the State Banking Department headed by the Bank Commissioner.

Quigley started a store in Illmo in 1907 and continued to operate it until his death.

1908

In 1908 George Bell open a box factory, which employee between 100-150 people.

1912

Eclectic Light Co. out of Cape Girardeau lights in 1912.

B. E. Wadley started a pressing shop in Illmo in 1912 and still operates the shop.

1913

After 45 years of service, this old building was torn down and the rocks used in the foundation of the new church, a brick edifice which was completed in 1913.

1914

In 1914, it was sold to Mr.

1916

Roth repurchased the store in 1916 and is the present owner of the store known as the Model Grocery.

1919

1919 - Law Offices of Barlow, Barlow and Kautz created a new corporation named Bethany Trust Company on September 19, 1919.

1920

1920 - Opened doors on January 1 on the Southwest side of Bethany Square.

The Kroger Baking and Grocery Company started a grocery store in Illmo in 1920 and are still operating here.

1921

In 1921, the State Banking Department became the Department of Finance and the title "Commissioner of Finance" was created.

1930

It stood north of where Doctor G. T. Dorris residence now stands. It was destroyed by fire in 1930, was rebuilt immediately, and today is one of the modern bakeries of Southeast Missouri.

1947

In 1947 the Fisher family built a Methodist Church and it was located just to the east of the grade school.

1950

The grade school closed down in mid-1950, and the kids started going to the Fornfelt West Ward School.

1955

The State Banking Board was created in 1955 to handle appeals from certain decisions and orders of the Commissioner of Finance.

1957

In 1957 a large school building was built west of town for all grades.

1960

The second event was in 1960 Ancell consolidated with Fornfelt to become the city of Scott City.

1965

1965 - Demolished original bank and built the building that still stands there today, featuring the bank's first ever drive-up teller window.

1969

1969 - Celebrated our 50th Anniversary with a daylong celebration, and reached a milestone of $10 million in assets.

1985

1985 - Peggy Rhinehart, Bethany Trust Company's first female vice-president and interim CEO, created the Gold Key Account Club (known as the Banner Club today) for customers meeting certain age and account criteria.

1991

Prior to August 28, 1991 all such receipts were deposited into the General Revenue Fund.

1998

1998 – BTC Bank acquired the Bank of Gallatin/First State Bank in New Hampton.

1999

1999 – Celebrated our 80th anniversary in September, changed our name to BTC Bank, and opened a new facility in Albany.

2003

2003 – Acquired the First Bank of Missouri in Pattonsburg.

2005

2005 – Opened our second location in Bethany, with plans to later relocate our BTC Headquarters.

2007

2007 – Completed construction and opened our Chillicothe BTC Bank Branch.

2008

2008 – Closed our original Main Branch location and relocated our headquarters to 3606 Miller Street, Bethany.

2009

2009 - Installed a bridge over a water feature on our main campus in celebration of BTC's 90th Anniversary.

2011

The Bank of Missouri has received this 5-Star rating every quarter since December 2011.

2011 – Expanded across state lines to open a full service BTC Bank Branch in Lamoni, Iowa.

2013

2013 - Created BTC Area Youth Benefit Corp., a nonprofit organization, to support local children through volunteerism and donation, beyond what BTC Bank could do itself.

2014

2014 – Opened our seventh full service bank, located in Carrollton.

2015

2015 – Completed construction and moved into our new permanent Carrollton location, and opened a BTC Bank loan office in Boonville.

2016

2016 – Upgraded our Boonville loan office to a full service BTC Bank Branch.

2017

2017 – BTC Bank opened our ninth full service branch, located in the Beaman, MO area.

2018

2018 – Opened a temporary building for our tenth location in Trenton, Missouri.

2019

Construction began in Trenton and Boonville areas for brand new BTC Bank buildings to be completed in 2019.

2020

For the first time ever, BTC lobbies were closed from March 19, 2020 to May 11, 2020.

2021

BTC Bank opened a temporary building for our 13th location in Buffalo, Missouri on January 11, 2021.
