    SUMMARY: This position is accountable for the safety and security of campus as well as armed patrol operations and performing investigative duties. This is a 3rd shift position, with hours from 7pm-7am. Regularly scheduled hours of 3 12-hour shifts per week. This is a full-time position with full benefits package including dependent education benefits. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Perform patrol duties by patrolling the campus on foot or car; and performing safety and security checks to ensure safety and security of staff, students and buildings. Enforce policies and regulations of the University. Establish and maintain the investigation process by responding to incidents, generating reports, distributing report information to appropriate persons, visiting incident scenes, gathering all pertinent data, and keeping track of campus events to ensure timely and effective investigations. Provide security for special events by conducting parking details and providing building security to ensure necessary safety of outside performers. Assist in maintaining the University's compliance with campus regulations such as Clery and Annual Fire Safety. Cooperate with local police departments and safety teams of nearby institutions in promoting a safe environment on and around the campus area. Other duties may be assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE This position requires an Associate's degree (A.A) from a two-year college or technical school; one to three years experience (in the field of criminal justice); or equivalent combination of education and experience. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES 1. Understanding of security and safety related matters. 2. Training and experience in police and/or security work preferred. 3. Training in basic first aid and emergency medical procedures preferred. 4. Crisis intervention skills are necessary. 5. Training and experience using defensive tactics is preferred. 6. Understanding of incident command and emergency management. 7. Training and experience with firearms is necessary. 8. Situational awareness that includes ability to observe suspicious behavior and potential safety threats and environmental hazards. 9. Operate surveillance systems, access control software, incident reporting tools, and body-worn cameras. PHYSICAL DEMANDS include 1. Walking and standing. 2. Driving an automobile on public roads and highways are critical. 3. Lifting and carrying of objects weighing 5-20 lbs. or more. 4. Guide and oversee all inmate movement throughout the facility including determining best routes for escort, who can and cannot visit with inmates, and supervision during meal times. Observes, recognizes, and is aware of inmates with symptoms of alcohol or drug abuse and withdrawal, mental or emotional disorders, and issues and stressors that arise with inmates themselves and inmates around them. Be able to recognize and address violent offenders and potential threats, de-escalate situations between inmates, and notify supervisors of any potential problem or incident. Conducts checks of inmate housing and cell searches for inmate census, compliance, and detection of contraband. Controls and operates life safety equipment, electronic safety and surveillance equipment, and door control systems. Performs booking, fingerprinting, identification, and records maintenance procedures that may include pat-downs, entering charges into the system, preliminary medical screening, notifying supervisors of any possible intake problems, clearing inmates for release, and assisting in the transportation to and from other facilities. Maintains the security of inmates transported to the holding area in the Courts building and provides escort, transport services, and security of inmates to various locations including during recreation, religious services and programs. Assists with screening and distributing and retrieving inmate meal trays, mail and medication. Participates in evacuation procedures and maintains security in emergency situations of the facility. Maintains appropriate security and confidentiality of all information and materials encountered in performance of the officer's duties. Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) Prefer an Associate's Degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, or related field preferred.
