Temporary Crowd Control Officers (Continuous Pool Recruitment)
University of Wisconsin Oshkosh 3.6
Unarmed security officer job in Green Bay, WI
Current Employees and Students: If you are currently employed or enrolled as a student at any of the Universities of Wisconsin, log in to Workday to apply through the internal application process. Temporary Crowd Control Officers (Continuous Pool Recruitment)
Job Category:
University Staff
Employment Type:
Terminal (Fixed Term)
Job Profile:
Crowd Control Officer
Job Duties:
Applications will be considered for vacancies that occur from October 2, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
Throughout the year, UW-Green Bay hosts a wide range of athletic competitions and special events that often draw substantial crowds and present unique logistical challenges. These demands can exceed the staffing capacity of the UW-Green Bay Police Department, especially given the frequency of events and our ongoing commitment to maintaining regular patrol and operational coverage.
With the return of men's basketball games from Ashwaubenon to the Kress Events Center on campus, we are seeking qualified "Crowd Control Officers" to help offset staffing shortages and ensure a safe, well-managed environment for attendees.
We invite current Police Officers to join our team as a Crowd Control Officer. Officers will wear their home agency uniform and equipment while on duty and operate under the supervision of a University Police supervisor. Typical responsibilities include managing traffic and pedestrian flow outside the venue and maintaining a visible security presence within the event space.
Men's and women's basketball games consistently draw the largest audiences among UW-Green Bay events. While these games have historically required minimal police intervention-despite spirited competition and alcohol sales-the evolving nature of collegiate athletics means crowd dynamics can shift quickly, especially as team success builds throughout the season.
Our Crowd Control Officer program is modeled after the long-standing and successful approach used by UW-Madison for their football games. We are looking to build a small, reliable pool of officers to support our operations. Availability will be a key factor in the selection process-the more available you are, the greater the likelihood of being hired.
Key Job Responsibilities:
* Control the movements of pedestrians and vehicles within parking lots and/or on roadways
* Suppress through presence or proactive measures unlawful or unsafe activity
* Take enforcement action under lawful police authority to address unlawful or unsafe activity
* Monitor and control the movements of crowds and/or individuals within an event venue
Department:
University Police
Compensation:
Hourly salary of $60.00.
This position will earn an additional $0.80 per hour for all weekend hours worked, as well as for all hours worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Required Qualifications:
* Full-time Sworn Law Enforcement Certification with the LESB, and currently be in good standing with your primary law enforcement employer.
* Proven abilities to respond to incidents using the LESB approved RESPOND model, with high proficiency in the use of de-escalation techniques.
* Knowledge of Wisconsin Traffic and Pedestrian law and controlling their movements.
* No history of a sustained excessive use of force violation or other violations related to sexual harassment or abuse
Preferred Qualifications:
* Full time Sworn Law Enforcement, in good standing with primary law enforcement employer with jurisdiction within Brown County Wisconsin
Conditions of Appointment:
Position is a part-time, temporary University Staff appointment. The work hours for this position will be as needed. The schedule will vary based on the event but may include days, nights, weekends, or holidays based on departmental need.
A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). In addition, if the final selected candidate has prior work history within the last 7 years with Universities of Wisconsin, a personnel file review check for employee misconduct will be completed. In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the University does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.
