Maintain good personal and uniform appearance and be courteous to the public, parking customers, City employees and Waukesha Metro Transit personnel at all times. Intervene to terminate acts injurious or potentially injurious to others or property. Patrol in accordance with routes and schedules established in the Posted Orders, at the direction of the Supervisor. Notify appropriate Waukesha Metro Transit and/or Parking supervisor and/or Waukesha Police of any activity which is suspected of being criminal in nature. Investigate questionable acts or behavior observed or reported on City property and question witnesses and suspects to ascertain or verify facts. Respond to reports of ill or injured passengers, citizens and employees, render first aid when appropriate, and notify Waukesha Metro Transit personnel, the Parking Supervisor or Waukesha Fire if further assistance is necessary or desirable. Under extraordinary circumstances, detain within legal limits and in accordance with written policy and procedure, any individuals reasonably suspected of damaging City or personal property or injuring others, for further investigation or arrest by local law enforcement agency. Maintain order and use good judgment and discretion in handling unruly passengers or trespassing public. Maintain an accurate daily log and write daily reports, incident reports, and non-employee injury reports. Maintain law and order within the Downtown Parking Ramp, Transit Center and/or City Hall. When assigned to the Transit Ramp, unlock and lock: lobby of Transit Center, staff vehicle parking gates and all assigned doors at the times prescribed in the post orders. In emergency situations, assume leadership and provide direction to employees and public to take shelter/evacuate following established emergency action plans of the Downtown Parking Ramp or Transit System/City. Monitor individuals for loitering. If person(s) are in the Downtown Parking Ramp, Transit Center or City Hall for longer than the allowable time limit, escort them off the premises and/or have them cited for loitering. Report those who are loitering to the Parking Supervisor. The Transit Center patrols are weekday mornings and evenings Monday-Saturday. The City Hall patrols are weekday mornings and late afternoon to evening. The Downtown Parking Ramp patrols are conducted 5 pm to 10 pm daily. Other duties as assigned. This may include additional assignments to meet emergency situations or special-duty assignments. When assigned to the Transit Center: Be present and patrol on the transit concourse no less than five minutes before buses are scheduled to pull into the Transit Center, patrol the concourse during the transfer period and remain on the concourse no less than five minutes after the last bus has left the Transit Center. After buses leave, patrol the rest of the facility including the stair towers, parking decks, elevator cars and lobbies and the complete surrounding area of the Transit Center. Monitor the security cameras for the Transit Center and City Hall when not on foot patrol. When assigned to City Hall: Be present and patrol the parking decks of the Transit Center and North Street Stairwell, Skywalk, City Hall lobby as well as the rest of City Hall including the exterior. When assigned to the Downtown Ramp: Be present and patrol on The Ramp and the rest of the facility including the stair towers, parking decks, elevator cars and lobbies and the complete surrounding area of the Downtown Ramp. Monitor the security cameras for the Downtown Ramp in the Main Office when not on foot patrol. All guards on duty shall work collaboratively with each other and assist each other as required. Other Job Functions Performs related duties as assigned. Graduation from high school or GED plus 5 years of experience in law enforcement or security services; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills: Knowledge of Department policies and procedures pertaining to safety and security. English language both speaking and writing (Preferred-Conversational Spanish). Public safety and security procedures/protocols. Law enforcement/criminal justice. General office procedures and the use of standard office equipment. First Aid/CPR (Preferred). Ability to Work independently with minimal supervision. Use surveillance program. Maintains Huber inmate compliance with Huber laws, rules and policies by performing the following duties: checks in and checks out Huber inmates, verifies employment, conducts job site and home visits, conducts random drug and alcohol testing, and deposits Huber funds. Coordinates, transports, or escort inmates to and from facilities, courts and medical/mental treatment facilities. Answers or properly refers all inquiries concerning prisoner and jail matters. Appears in court and testifies as a witness as required. Performs intoximeter and preliminary breath tests (PBT), takes DNA mouth swabs, and collects urinalysis samples when necessary. The part-time Unarmed Security Guard is responsible for providing vigilant, static security services at key locations such as courtyards, offices, pools, and other high-value areas. The Corrections Officer is responsible for securing inmates in the County Jail. This work involves enforcing rules and regulations, preventing escapes, maintaining order and discipline among inmates, and escorting inmates to and from their cells. Work also involves transportation and supervision of inmates to and from court, hospital, and within the jail facility. Basic records are kept; officers are uniformed. Supervision is received from command staff on an assigned shift. This job title operates on three eight-hour fifteen-minute shifts. Corrections Officers are members of Police Benevolent Labor Committee, Corrections. Sign-On Bonus: $5,000 ($2,000 after 6 months of employment, and $3,000 at the completion of year 2) (caps at 30 years) Requirements Applicants must be 21 years of age at the time of application. You must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Applicants must have no felony convictions or pending cases. You must be willing to work any shift and possess a valid driver's license. Education - applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. We prefer candidates with at least 30 college credit hours in psychology, criminology, and related fields, who have at least two years of military service and/or prior experience in corrections, law enforcement, security, or any other management. Successful applicants must take and pass a work-related - medical/physical examination and pass a background investigation, including criminal history status. In addition to the first year of requirements, candidates must also successfully pass all aspects of the Correctional Field Training Program within the first year of employment. New employees must become State Certified Corrections Officers from the Illinois Training Board. The criteria for certification are two hundred (200) hours of academy training, fifteen (15) hours of more advanced training that includes the Law regarding Corrections, Human Growth and Development, and Prison Organizations. Must pass a one (1) week Direct Supervision class. Successful completion of the above qualifications does not guarantee employment. The physical agility and written examination shall be waived for applicants who meet all the below requirements: * Are currently employed as a Correctional Officer in the state of Illinois, working in a County or State Correctional Facility. Federal Prison employees are not eligible for lateral transfers. * Are in good standing in their department, with no prior disciplinary suspensions issued. * Have two years of full-time continuous experience - this may be waived provided the applicant successfully completed a period of probation. * Have successfully completed Illinois Basic Correctional Officer Training, or successfully completed Basic Correctional Officer Training which can be transferred and accepted by the Illinois State Training Board. Transfer applicants must complete an application, personal history statement, pass an oral interview with executive staff of the correctional division, and submit to a full background investigation, in addition to; * Transfer applicant will undergo a polygraph and psychological examination * Transfer applicant must pass a medical examination and drug test * Applicants that successfully complete all the above requirements will be considered for employment by the Sheriff, and/or designee, to include the Sheriff's sole discretion to give up to six (6) years wage placement credit as specified in the current labor agreement. In all other respects, lateral hires will be treated as new employees for purposes of benefits and seniority. * Any applicant that fails to complete or successfully pass all of the requirements, as set forth, will be provided administrative notice of such, and not eligible for employment.
