He worked as a project manager on large retail projects in Cape Town before immigrating to San Diego in 1979, to pursue a career in construction and real estate development. In 1987, Gaf and his wife founded Gafcon, Inc. Under his leadership as CEO, Gafcon has grown into a globally respected program and construction management consulting firm. Gafcon has been responsible for the success of hundreds of projects, including high profile projects such as: the $5.5 billion Zizhu Purple Bay residential community, an 800-acre megaproject in Shanghai; AltaSea, a $135 million adaptive reuse at the Port of Los Angeles; the $100 million redevelopment of the Los Angeles Forum; the City of San Diego North Embarcadero Visionary Plan; the Port of Los Angeles Waterfront and Promenade; and $46.25 billion in education bond programs throughout San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles. In 2016, the Unified Port of San Diego awarded the $1.2B redevelopment of Seaport Village to Protea Waterfront Development with Gaf as the active Managing Partner. He will steward the project to its successful completion by providing leadership and direction for the strategy and execution, with Gafcon, Inc. providing program management services.Gaf’s vision is to continue working to make Gafcon a leader in the Project and Construction Management industry, while personally stewarding worthy development opportunities that make a difference to the communities surrounding them.
