Adjunct Professor - DMS
Allen College seeks to hire adjunct faculty to teach the lab component of DMS308 Vascular II in the diagnostic medical sonography program. In the laboratory setting, the adjunct faculty provides education and supervision for the student consistent with established standards of care, as well as course and program objectives in collaboration with the course faculty. The adjunct laboratory faculty is supervised by the lead course faculty.

Responsibilities
Provides laboratory instruction and supervision for assigned students.
Assists faculty member in evaluation of student progress and competency.
Assists in coordinating laboratory education with didactic education.
Assists in maintaining effective and well-documented student laboratory records.
Participates with guidance in the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the individual course within the college curriculum.
Promotes and maintains collaborative relationships between college and clinical agencies.
Teaches (with direction and guidance of administration or instructor of higher rank), including Classroom preparation, instruction, supervision and evaluation.
Provides a positive role model and professional attitude toward students and the teaching process.
Maintains confidentiality in accord with college/program policy.
Effectively work with the daily mental and physical stresses of the job which includes, but not limited to: meeting deadlines, attending meetings, completing compliance requirements, meeting and working with staff, faculty, students and the public.
Qualifications
Education:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in program discipline or related field from an accredited institution of higher education; master's degree preferred.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach three 14-week undergraduate courses in both fall and winter terms, including elementary, intermediate, and advanced language/culture courses. Teach one 4-week May term course, including travel courses on rotation. Advise student majors in Spanish; develop new courses in area of specialization and for the new THRIVE General Education plan; engage in scholarship and service appropriate to the liberal arts setting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned doctorate or ABD (specialization open) in Hispanic Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Hispanic Literatures/Cultures, or related field by August 2026. Relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: Spanish for health professions; translation/interpretation; Hispanic linguistics; sociolinguistics; Spanish for heritage speakers; U.S. Latinx studies; Spanish in the U.S.; bilingualism; phonetics/pronunciation; community-based service-learning; study abroad; K-12 licensure in ESL and/or Spanish; online teaching. Near-native verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English. Evidence of teaching excellence; promise of continued scholarly activity; and willingness to support the mission of the College.
Demonstrated ability to teach another language at the elementary and intermediate levels preferred.

For persons in vocational-technical education fields without teacher education/experience and degrees, the occupational requirement is 6000 or more hours of recent, practical work experience.
Must have the necessary prior experience to demonstrate expertise in the field to be taught and/or prior teaching experience, preferably at the post-secondary level.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Candidate must have strong leadership ability; excellent communication skills; and must be ethical, honest, and objective. Experience with and aptitude for working with representatives from business, industry, education, and other agencies in the identification of vocational and general education programming to meet the needs of the department and the college.
