1986

He was the owner of Universal Building Components (UBC), 1986 President of WTCA and a lifetime member of the WTCA Top Chord Club.

1987

In 1987 WTCA membership increased over 20 percent or 73 members.

1988

The handbook development process began in 1988 with a draft manuscript by Ed Callahan, P.E. that was edited and recompiled by Kirk Grundahl, Pam Dinsmore and Jay Edgar.

1990

In the early to mid-1990’s there were few companies who would design and manufacture steel trusses.

1992

He also served on the board of directors of the Florida Forestry Association and in 1992 was named as Automated Builders’ James R. Price Achievement in Housing award winner.

1993

Our first truss was manufactured in 1993 when light gauge steel trusses were made only of traditional ‘C’ studs and independent structural engineering firms were used to design and engineer the truss system.

1995

The Standard Practice for Metal Plate Connected Wood Truss Design Responsibilities (WTCA1-1995) was approved as an official WTCA document.

1996

As the truss business grew and the jobs got larger, the company in 1996 purchased a 10-acre lot in Markham, Illinois with a 92,000 square foot warehouse.

1997

Superior Truss and Panel was founded by William Welty in 1997.

Superior began manufacturing pre-fabricated light gauge steel wall panel systems in 1997.

1999

NAHB Fire Resolution Unites Industry Organizations: At its 1999 Spring Board meeting in May, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) published a document entitled NAHB Resolution on Restrictions and Bans on Wood Trusses and I-Joists.

WTCA approved $25,000 in funding to the NAHB Research Center (NAHBRC)(link is external) for 1999.

2000

Rene-Paul Lemyre invented Open Joist 2000, a glued finger jointed open web floor truss with a trimmable end detail.

BCMC(link is external) Theme: “Solutions 2000.” Exhibit space tops 57,000 square feet.

2001

He was WTCA Hall of Fame inductee in 2001.

2002

Trinity Drywall formally dissolved its subcontracting business in 2002.

2005

The 2005 edition of the National Design Specification for Wood Construction ANSI/AF&PA NDS-2005 was released.

WTCA announced the latest addition to its online catalog: the Wood Design Package of the National Design Specification for Wood Construction ANSI/AF&PA NDS-2005.

2010

WTCA will now have a direct voice in the development of the 2010 edition.

2013

Prompted by a need for a larger manufacturing facility, the owners purchased in 2013 a nine-acre site in Gary, Indiana which has easy access to interstate roads.

2018

As of May 2018, our manufacturing function has 65 full-time employees, operating on a two-shift schedule, who manufacture and deliver the trusses and wall panel products required by our customers for their construction projects.
