Are lawyers happy?

By Zippia Team - Aug. 22, 2022

No, lawyers are not happy. Lawyers are 3.6 times more likely to be depressed than people working in other fields. It is estimated that 28% of licensed lawyers suffer from depression. In addition, studies have shown that 56% of lawyers are frustrated with their careers.

The reasons for this generally stem from stressful work environments, long hours, and in the case of new lawyers, massive amounts of student debt accrued from law school.

There are exceptions; of course, being a lawyer can be fulfilling because it's an important role in society that can help people and be lucrative, but on the whole, most lawyers are not happy.
