Can a medical assistant take the LPN exam?

By Zippia Team - Dec. 9, 2022

No, a medical assistant cannot take the LPN exam. A medical assistant is a professional who focuses on scheduling, clerical, and billing tasks; this role does not require the same educational and experience requirements as an LPN.

An LPN diploma and/or certification comes from courses such as biology, nursing, and hands-on nursing educational experience. LPNs must pass the NCLEX-PN exam to gain certification.

This exam is not available to medical assistants because they do not have the appropriate nursing education and background in the field.
